Peter Fischli and David Weiss have made some of the most highly prized artist’s books of their generation, including Suddenly this Overview (1982), Visible World (2000), and Will Happiness Find Me? (2003). Their new book, Peter Fischli David Weiss: Polyurethane Objects, continues this tradition.

Fischli and Weiss have been making their Polyurethane Objects since 1992. Hand-carved and -painted with almost (but not quite) machine-like precision, these sculptures overturn the notion of the readymade while uncovering, in the clutter of daily life, both humor and poetry.

Edited and sequenced by Peter Fischli, the book features 140 sculptures (one per page) depicting such humble items as power tools, coffee cups, and shipping pallets. Meanwhile the fold-out cover shows the sculptures as they are exhibited, in arrangements that call to mind the distinctive disarray of a workshop or an artist’s studio.
