Matthew Marks is pleased to announce that the next exhibition in his gallery at 522 West 22nd Street will be Roni Horn: Five Installations.

This will be Roni Horn’s largest exhibition in New York to date. For these new works, Horn utilizes a wide range of media including gold, rubber, aluminum, plastic and photography.

Among the works included in the exhibition is Gold Mats Paired (For Ross and Felix) which is constructed of two paper thin sheets of pure gold resting one directly on top of the other. What appears to be artificial illumination is actually the room’s ambient light reflecting between the two sheets of gold producing an extraordinary interior glow.

Also on view will be Roni Horn’s first large scale photography-based work, You are the Weather, which is composed of 100 color and black and white photographs depicting the face of one person slightly larger than life-size, and with very subtle variations. The photographs are installed on all four walls of a room.

In Untitled (You are the Weather) a 1 inch thick rubber floor with inlaid texts of adjectives commonly used to describe weather, is installed wall-to-wall in one room. The work is highly tactile and meant to be walked upon and experienced physically, as well as visually.

In the past year Roni Horn had a major exhibition of her installation work at the Kunsthalle, Basel which then traveled to the Kestner-Gesellschaft in Hannover. A concurrent exhibition of her drawings was held at the Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Basel. On February 2, 1996 the Wexner Center for the Arts in Columbus, Ohio will open an exhibition of her sculptures which relate specifically to the work of Emily Dickinson. Catalogues were published to accompany each of these exhibitions and are available through the Matthew Marks Gallery.
