This online version of Martin Honert’s first New York exhibition in eight years includes four new sculptures. Made by hand over many years, Honert’s meticulously crafted sculptures are often inspired by memories of his childhood in post-war Germany. Three of the sculptures presented here depict scenes of children at play. The style of the sculptures emulates that of children’s book illustrations of the artist’s youth.

The fourth work in the exhibition, Embankment, is a three-dimensional sculpture of a landscape with a multi-channel projection of a train slowly moving across it. Although not originally intended for children’s recreation, the artist describes the railroad track and surrounding area as a playground.
